Tonight’s song “Out of Time” was originally uploaded last night but included two acoustic guitar tracks with lead melodies. This version, I muted the second lead and just left the original acoustic track I improvised first.

Hope you like it!

dlseif is a suspensful song that would be great for film and commercial video. Everything is one take except the lead guitar track…that was 2 because of a boo boo.

Enjoy it and thank you for listening!

“Do You Know Me” 06-19-10

Posted by: Scott Quillin | Comments (4)

Tonight’s new song (sample) is titled “Do You Know Me” and features some interesting sounds and textures. It’s mellow but also has a little “zing” in the sound.

I’ve been sining a song I wrote in 1993 titled “Do You Know” about my dad dying. I will probably write and upload it tomorrow but it depends on how the day goes because it’s Father’s Day and I won’t have much time to record. I would have this afternoon but I spend some time visiting with folks at a local nursing home and then had dinner with Michelle.

I hope you like this song. It has a hint of Carlos Santana with bell sounds and a hint of distortion.

Thanks for listening -

“Shuffles the Clown” 06-11-10

Posted by: Scott Quillin | Comments (2)

Tonight’s song is another in a series of recent improvisations of hard rock and metal ideas captured as they happened live. Both lead guitar pieces are one take with no edits. I love how my Ibanez Jem7v really privides the ability to take what I give it. That’s why I fell in love with it. I knew it was my baby before I ever played one. When I played it, the sound just cut through. When I saw Steve Vai play his Jem7v hard and pull it way out of tune only to go right back into something soft and poetic, I knew I had to have it.

This song idea goes out to all the people that rocked way back when it was new and are still rockin in their hearts. And those that do not rock, it’s okay. Diversity is a good thing.

If you have an idea of a song you would like me to listen to and emulate into something new, contact me through Twitter.

I really like this one a lot. What do you think?

As always, thank you for listening!

“sLiMe” 06-10-10

Slime is one of the songs that just falls into place with very little effort. I decided to overlay ambient synth over the heavy guitars, drums and bass for a “futuristic” sound.

This is a 60-second sample as are the other heavy metal samples I’ve written, recorded and uploaded this week. I’m sure I’ll upload another relaxing/mediative song again soon but for now, all I wants is sumore metal!

“Strands” 06-04-10

Posted by: Scott Quillin | Comments (2)

I make an attempt to upload a new piece of music every day – mostly improvisations unedited and untweaked. It’s after 1am so it’s not today anymore but I’m going to upload it as if it is still June 4,2010.

Tonight’s song, tited “Strands”, is three acoustic guitar improvisations written and recorded back-to-back-to-back. I had to redo some parts because I’m emotionally and physically drained from rehearsal tonight (and it’s the farthest thing from light music). My goal is not to “direct” the song as I’m improvising. I don’t want to try and guide where I think it should go and allow the song to flow.

This is a 60-second version but tomorrow (today) I will see if something comes to mind.

Tonight’s song “Asleep Through Midnight” is once again – an acoustic guitar improvisation with the Omniphere beast track that was also improvised in one take with no editing.

I love to just sit down and write music. Whatever comes to mind. I must admit that my own opinion of myself is that I dread the thought of uploading some of the music I’ve uploaded this year. I can be ultra-critical of myself as a musician (and person for that matter) and because the majority of music I share is just recording whatever happens when I picked up the guitar, sit behind the keyboard or microphone and just capture what comes out.

Hope you like this one!

Michelle talked me into uploading this song tonight. It has vocals and my room is not setup for great vocals so I normally don’t upload anything with me singing.

Tonight’s song was originally written in 1994 on keyboards (with a piano sound). As I was improvising, I started to play a rhythm that sparked me singing the melody line from “As I Review My Youth.”

This song is certainly not uplifting. When I originally recorded it, I was going through one of the most painful times of my life. If you had a tramatic childhood or suffered abuse, I think you’ll relate to this song.

I really wasn’t going to upload this, but I find myself doing all kinds of stuff that my wife wants me to do that without her “encouragement” I wouldn’t. Maybe she knows best (SOMETIMES).

As I Review My Youth

I hear the silence
Of the violence
And the bloodshed
Nothing was said

All and all what a success
Though we regress
Our mind is set

Fight the fear of moving on
We’re going on
I’ll take you on

And there’s nothing you can do
Nothing you can say
Somehow I lost my youth
And you took it away

In all confusion
There’s illusion of what’s right
And what’s real

From my mind I try to find
An answer to what I would do
If I gave you what you gave me
Can you blame me?
Who can blame me?

And there’s nothing you can do
Nothing you can say
You robbed me of my youth
And you took it away

I hope this song doesn’t trigger anyone. It’s empowering for me to hear it (as it was when I wrote it) but it also took a long time to get to a place emotionally to gain this perspective. Hopefully, it will help you if you need it.

For years I had trouble falling asleep. If I woke up during the night, I had trouble falling back to sleep. If I had to use the bathroom or Michelle came to bed late and woke me up, I would more often than not just lay there looking at the ceiling…my mind racing along as if it were in the middle of the day.

Towards the end of 2009, I started listening to audio seminars while I slept. I did this for a few months but I what I really enjoyed was listening to music all night. I would change it up – sometimes playing music and other nights listening to audio books, seminars, and training/tutorials.

Then, starting January 1, 2010, I started writing, recording and uploading a new song nearly every day. I would fill up my iPod with my songs and song ideas.

This got me thinking about recording music specifically designed for sleeping. Now for the very first time, I’m sharing “Interval 01″ – a 15-minute ambient track written and recorded to help people fall asleep faster and stay asleep longer. I call it Dream Sleep.

I invite you to click on the link below and try this FREE 15-minute Dream Sleep track to see if it helps you fall asleep and stay asleep.

For best results, please use headphones.

Thank you for listening and for downloading this track to enjoy while you fall asleep.

Here’s to a good night of rest and relaxation.

Enjoy!
